U12 Girls Yazoo Mini Hockey Tournament
Sunday 7th March Altrincham Girls Grammar School
A sunny day at Altrincham beckoned Triton’s U12 girl’s, playing together for the first time. Opponents included Alderley Edge, Bowdon
and Oxton.
Emily Statham pads up for the first time and Captain Hannah Spears
assesses the team for the first game against Alderley Edge Wizards.
Our young team, by 2 years, battled valiantly to stem the flow, with defenders Lucy Williams and Freya Forster working hard to support the goalie.
Game 2 against Bowdon saw the team step up a gear with some good tackling in midfield by Emily Bell. Once again the defenders had to work hard to stop the powerful opposition and the girls worked hard to pass the ball about. Emily S made some good saves, definitely encouraged by everyone behind the goal.
A quick change of goalie saw Chloe step into Emily’s pads and over to pitch B to meet the ‘Edgehogs! This game saw Katie Bell join her sister in midfield to tackle everything that moved. Hannah Ford joined Captain
Hannah up front to try and dodge past the prickly ‘Edgehogs. Good saves by Chloe kept the score down.
Oxton were certainly our age and size! Triton gaining in confidence held on to the game with good tackling by all the girls and Chloe coming off the line to kick out well. Good passing set Natasha Wing off several times and we had a couple of shots just wide! Alex Lewis, growing in confidence, worked hard in midfield tackling with Lucy and Emily dropping back when needed.
Overall, a great start to the tournament circuit for the girls. Mini hockey is fast and furious and not for the faint hearted as the girls proved. Growing in confidence every game and their communication was excellent. Well Done – Triton Hockey Club U12’s Girls
Thanks
· To the vociferous Triton supporters whose chants grew louder and louder as each game passed
· To Emily S and Chloe for stepping into the goalie pads for the first time
· To Michael and Jane for providing goalie education from the back of the net
