Juniors End of Season Awards Presentation

10 May 2016 by Tim Statham

The Triton Junior section held its annual awards and presentation event last Saturday morning. All of junior groups were celebrated and certificates handed out for the Stix Skills assessments a few weeks ago or attendance awards for those unable to attend the Stix Skills event. Stix Skills assesses the competence of junior players in 6 key disciplines of shooting, passing, tackling and dribbling with the gold award standard a very tough challenge to achieve. A huge credit to the five juniors that achieved this level.

East Cheshire JAC

The East Cheshire JAC awards took place on Saturday evening at Congleton Town Hall that celebrated all the players who played representative hockey for the area in the Northwest tournaments this spring. As usual Triton HC was well represented in all the age groups for both girls and boys as the Club played its part in a fantastically successful season for East Cheshire. Triton Hockey Club is especially proud of the players that scooped four of the awards presented by former GB Olympic international Tina Cullen;

Maddie Goodman - best player U14 girls
James Clifton - most improved player U14 boys
Nathan Thorley – most improved player U16 boys
Nat Cain - best player U17 boys

It was also great to note that Triton coaches and administrators played their usual part in the East Cheshire success story led by Chris Calam, Suzanne Colclough, Jez Goodman, Graeme Currie and Andy Birchall along with the Club’s former players Tom Payne and Ant Birchall.

Final Girls' Game 2015/16

Triton under 14s Girls played its final match of the season against a mixed Macclesfield's under 14s girls and boys. The first 15 minutes didn't really go to plan and the team found itself 3-0 down. Following a necessary break for water in the baking sunshine Triton’s Girls finally got their act together and by half time they'd closed the gap and shown their opponents that a 3 goal lead definitely doesn't mean game over! At half time it was 3-3 with goals coming from Bethan Robinson and two for Maddie Goodman.

The second half was a much more balanced affair and although Triton had several more good chances they were unlucky to convert any further goals. Final score was 3-3 and manager Alan Lewis was delighted by the outcome “this was another great performance from this ever improving squad. Well played girls!”.

The Junior section takes a break for the summer until the Saturday 3 September at Alsager Leisure Centre with games resuming the following weekend. However summer Hockey is now in full swing for the seniors of 16 years old and above, this takes place at the old MMU site off Dunnocksfold Road on Tuesday evenings from 7pm until 8-30pm. All players are welcome from beginners up to international standard!
