Ten-Up For Both Men's 2 & Badgers

07 December 2017 by Tim Statham

Manchester Men’s 3s 1 Triton Men’s 1s 5

Men’s 1s returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 5-1 success at Manchester Leigh. Fionn Mckinney opened the scoring with a drag flick from a penalty corner with Jack Newell making it 2-0 with a precise finish off the inside of the post following good work by teenage debutant Brad Thorley. The hosts pulled one back from a penalty stroke as the first half action came to a close.

Tom Chaddock made the points safe with two goals in the second period, the first a strike from a penalty corner and then he converted from a tight angle following a great ball from Martin Gregory. Gregory completed up the scoring, sweeping home from a further penalty corner to get the Men’s 1s back on track following a poor run three straight defeats and a postponement.

Hat-trick hero Becky Wade

Triton Ladies’ 1s 4 Urmston Ladies’ 1s 4

Triton Ladies’ 1s played host to Urmston looking to repeat its opening day victory. The home team started strongly and within 20 minutes were 3-0 up after some excellent passing and persistent pressure on the Urmston defence. The visitors then worked hard to get back into the game scoring two quick goals before half time to make it 3-2.

Urmston started the stronger team in the second half and managed to equalise. Triton was under pressure for good periods during the second half but stand-in goalie Laura Holt made some excellent saves. The hosts managed to score again to make it 4-3 but Urmston was not defeated and equalised once more to make it 4-4 in the final few minutes of the game. Becky Wade had a great game, scoring her first ever hat trick for the Ladies’ 1s, Poppy jones scored the other goal.

Triton Men’s 2s 10 Oxton Men’s 5s 0

Men's 2s chalked up another magnificent goal tally to take its total to 36 goals in the last 5 games in a run that’s seen the team at the top of Division 5. Keen to keep their winning streak going, Triton took to the field with confidence and respect for the opposition. Despite the outcome the match was a joy to watch and both teams displayed good sportsmanship. Etan Farrell and Nathan Thorley bothscored hat-tricks, Rob Moss grabbed a brace and goals from Ben Laxton and Jason Farrell completed the rout.

Triton Ladies’ 2s 2 Buckley Ladies’ 4s 2

Triton’s Ladies’ 2s finally reaped some reward for all their hard work in recent works. Buckley scored first from a penalty corner 20 minutes into the first half although overall the half was pretty equal between the teams with Triton having several goal opportunities.

In the second half Triton upped the pressure with every player working hard and creating many chances. From a free hit inside the D captain Julie Harris slammed home the equaliser. Triton increased the tempo of its play but with about 10 minutes to go Buckley retook the lead following a quick break and a deflection. Triton wasn’t daunted and player of the match Tish Wing provided some excellent running and crosses that gave the team several chances to score. With about 3 minutes to go a fantastic goal by Tracy Crump saved the day for the hosts to secure a point.

Triton Men’s 3s 2 Triton Men’s 4s 0

The Men’s 3s completed the double over the Men’s 4s to keep the pressure on Macclesfield at the top of Division 7. In a first half that had chances for both teams, there was only a Dave Farrington goal from close range to divide the teams. Oskar Lindblad pulled out some fine saves in the 4s goal, most notably to deny a Jack Robinson effort heading for the top corner.

The 3s dominated more in the second half although it found Lindblad again in fine form and 4s captain Rob Timewell making some good interceptions at the back. The 4s nearly managed an equaliser, but Brad Stevens effort was cleared off the line by Alistair Joyce. Farrington made the points safe for the 3s after a goalmouth scramble to claim the win.

Golborne Ladies’ 3s 0 Triton Ladies’ 3s 1

The Ladies’ 3s made it back-to-back wins with a convincing 1-0 victory at Golborne. After a very strong start by the home team, Triton pressured for the majority of the game, with attacking runs from Grace Elliot and Emma Salter. The attacking pressure ended with a goal from Emily Bell making it 1-0 to Triton and 4 goals in two games for Emily. Excellent stick work in midfield from Sophie Parker and Sorcha O'Brien made it tricky for Golborne to get it out of their own half. There was great linking play between Hollie Richardson and Emma Catchpole who were unlucky not to increase the lead. The win came via a terrific amazing effort from the makeshift defence of Karen Gooch, Jo Hankey and Alex Lewis, stopping the few breaks from Golborne backed up by Karen Ruston in goal.

Triton Badgers U15s 10 Alderley Edge 3

After much hard work and many improved performances the Badgers gave a terrific performance to beat Alderley Edge. Triton produced very good passing and movement off the ball. Harry Clare, O'Shay Reddy and Brad Stevens facilitated the passing to cement a 4-1 half time lead. The second half saw Connor Berry switch to right of midfield and hit a superb first ever goal for Triton from the top of the D into the corner. To add to this, several assists by carrying the ball to the base-line, commit the GK and slot back to the penalty spot for the late runner to deflect into the far corner. Hannah Wright at fullback and Ele Beetlestone on the left wing played excellently with determination in their overall play for the team. Nathan Kimberlin scored 4 goals, brother Matt Kimberlin grabbed a hat-trick whilst one goal each from Connor Berry, Brad Stevens & O'Shay Reddy completed the demolition.

Triton Beavers U13s 7 Sandbach 3

The Beavers enjoyed a humdinger of a game against Sandbach but the team ultimately came out winners 7-3. The opening 10 minutes were very competitive with Sandbach giving as good as it got. But lovely bit of skill from Tom Statham found a fantastic midfield run from Alexander Mackey who made made no mistake with a reverse stick hit. This settled the team down and Alexander turned provider when a run round the back teed up Bethan Robinson to make it 2-0. The team was on top and player of the match Freya Diamond led some good attacking from the back. But a lack of concentration allowed Sandbach to pull a goal back despite some determined defending from Benji Townsend and Matthew Kerry.

After the twenty minute break Tom Statham dribbled through the away team defence and scored via a defender's deflection. The Beavers were on top, James Bell nearly scored as too did Nicolas Mackey whilst Jonathan Holme broke up any counter attacking efforts in midfield. On the stroke of 40 minutes there was an assault on the Sandbach goal and Alexander reverse flicked home for 4-1.

Harrison Salt produced some good tackling at fullback and Joe Chadwick made some good saves on the few occasions Sandbach broke through. More pressure on the away team D from Freya and Bethan led to Dominic Church converting with a cool finish. But as it looked like the Beavers would run riot, Sandbach scored again on the break for 5-2. Gennaro Reddy produced some quality in midfield that led to a series of penalty corners. A novel change of tactic saw Tom coming from deep, this confused Sandbach as he dribbled passed the rush to fire home. Sandbach pegged the score back to 6-3 but straight from the pushback Alexander dribbled through countless challenges to score a truly wonderful solo effort.
