Oxton 6 Triton Badgers U15s 0

The fab Badgers' team at Oxton

The Badgers game was nowhere near as one sided as the score-line suggested with Oxton indebted to a fine display from its goalie. Triton should have taken the lead as Ele Beetlestone crossed from the left to Nathan Kimberlin who was denied a goal by a foot on the line. Nathan’s penalty flick was expertly saved by the diving keeper at full extension. Oxton attacked and had two penalty corners after strong defending from Ben Chadwick (captain today), Connor Berry and Ben Truscott. The first goal came from a firm strike from the top of the D to bottom left hand corner that was difficult for George Jenkins in goal. The remainder of the first half saw Triton in the defensive mode, with multiple penalty corners and finally a deflected shot went in 2-0 Oxton. Katie Nelson broke away in attack, linking well with brothers Nathan and Matthew Kimberlin, and Katie’s shot was quickly smothered by the keeper. But the half ended with Oxton adding a third goal.

Triton was awarded a penalty corner at the start of the second period Nathan Kimberlin’s powerful reverse hit was again saved by the diving goalie. Jamie Spears had two good opportunities to score but the keeper again denied Triton. Oxton pressure led to the three more goals. But Triton was left ruing more bad luck as Connor Berry’s effort from a penalty corner was ruled out as the initial hit was just slightly too high.

Bowdon B 1 Triton Badgers U15s 5

The Beavers put in a very impressive performance to beat Bowdon 5-1 up at Altrincham Girls School. Starting with just 9 players with a third of the squad either stuck on the M6 or lost, the team took it to Bowdon who was very surprised by how quickly it moved the ball back to front. With the team up to full strength Tom Statham was unlucky not to score from a penalty corner as his well stuck shot was saved on the line. Not to be denied the Beavers scored from a wonderful team move, the excellent James Bell produced a mazy run, he fed Dom Church who squared to Ben Brock who made no mistake. Bowdon equalised when the umpire played advantage in the defensive third but the ball then broke to put in the centre forward 1 v 1. To even it up a similar incident happened in the Beavers favour as Ben Brock wriggled free to restore the lead. Player of the match Kayleigh Birchall brought the ball out of defence with a wonderful dribble passed several defenders but she just couldn't quite find Bethan Robinson who was all alone behind the defence. Bethan was then unlucky not to increase the lead when her shot went into the side netting. Matthew Kerry steady Triton up at the back but had to leave the game poorly so Tom Statham unselfishly filled in at centre back to expertly marshal the defence. Benji Townsend had a super game at right back keeping his team ticking down the right hand side and Alexander Mackey's usual energy in midfield was made things difficult for the hosts' defence.

In the last 20 minutes the team turned up the heat. Ben Brock and Bethan Robinson caused havoc in the D and just when it looked like the Bowdon goal had escaped again, up popped debutant Harry Topping to jab the ball over the keeper for 3-1. The last 10 minutes was one way traffic, Statham and Harrison Salt produced some great defending as Triton then countered brilliantly. Joe Chadwick made some excellent decisions in goal to clear his lines with some expert kicking that sent the midfield back down-field. Inevitably Ben Brock completed his hat-trick with a diving finish after Harry Topping played him in and when Jonathan Holme produced a wonderful reverse hit that seemed to be heading into the right corner, Ben deflected into the opposite corner for his fourth goal.

U10s At Crewe Vagrants

Triton U10s was in action on Sunday at Crewe Vagrants. Our fantastic team played 4, won 3 and drew 1 - a great start to the U10s season. There were some great performances from our new players, some cracking goal scoring and terrific improvement from all the individuals. Overall there was brilliant team play and the children can only get better during the rest of the season.

The U10s had a tremendous afternoon at Crewe Vagrants
