Terrific Starts For Ladies' 1s, Men's 1s & 2s

28 September 2017 by Tim Statham

Triton Men’s 1s 5 Manchester Men’s 1s 1

Triton Men's 1s began its league campaign with a comfortable 5-1 win against Manchester to set the pace at the top of Division 2. Triton was the better team from the start and took the lead when Tom Chaddock fired home from a Penalty Corner. Ryan Griffiths made it 2-0 soon after sliding the ball passed the on-rushing goalkeeper. Manchester then found a route back into the game, also converting a Penalty Corner and then caused some consternation by forcing a couple of others.

The score remained 2-1 at the break, but Fionn McKinney's drag flick from a penalty corner into the side netting eased any nerves the team had. Griffiths then got his second of the match before the Manchester goalkeeper made a great point blank save. Griffiths completed his hat trick late on diverting the ball home after a great run to the baseline by Jack Newell. The team travels to Bangor University next Saturday.

Urmston Ladies’ 1s 2 Triton Ladies’ 1s 3

Newly promoted to the North SW league, Triton Ladies’ 1s opened their League account in great style with a 3-2 away win against Urmston. Gaby Goodman opened the scoring before the home team equalised. Rachel Barlow restored the lead soon after and then added a second to take Triton into 3-1 lead at half time.

Triton worked hard in the second half and was unlucky not to widen the gap with many chances saved by the Urmston keeper. But the hosts scored a second with 5 minutes to go that set up a very nervy finish but Triton held out to deservedly win its first game for a dream start to the North league campaign.

Ladies' 1s - New League, New Start - Same Outcome

Oxton Men’s 4s 1 Triton Men’s 2s 2

The Men's 2s travelled to West Kirby for its first league game to play against Oxton Men's 4s. Triton started strongly in the first half, holding the majority of possession in the opposition's half. With a strong passing game and frequent attacks up the left and right wings, Triton took its advantage early on. Mike Fielding and Richard South both scored to give the visitors a 2-1 lead by the half time whistle.

Into the second half Triton began to slow down in comparison to the young, strong and bigger squad of the Oxton team, but the team was able to hold their ground and preserve its lead into the final whistle. Triton Men's 2s are at home against Timperley Men's 4s next week for a 13:30 push back.

Buckley Ladies’ 1s 4 Triton Ladies’ 2s 0

A fast start by the Buckley took Triton by surprise and within 15 minutes the hosts were 2-0 up, from firm quick breaks. Triton fought hard and bravely, interchanging their new young team members. But by half time the home team had added a third and it was 3-0 to Buckley.

In the second half Triton changed tack and came out with a different approach, which paid off. Triton had a few chances and looked stronger, but the Buckley added another goal for a final score of 4-0. Despite the reverse following the fine opening win last week there were great debuts in the team from Hannah Williams, Issy Chivers and Lucy Hawkrigg together with a player of the match performance by Laura Griffiths

Triton Ladies’ 3s 4 Golbourne Ladies’ 3s 0

The Ladies 3’s secured a convincing win at home defeating Golborne 4-0. Starting the game strongly with a team of promising young players Triton dominated from the beginning. The first goal came early into the match slotted in by team captain Jenna Hulme. The second goal came shortly after, with a loose ball being collected by Tash Griffiths setting up Jenna for her second goal. The third goal came from player of the match Grace Elliot whose confidence grew throughout the game. The final of Triton’s goals came on the stroke of half time with Karen Gooch setting up Jo Hankey on the back post. Sadly 10 minutes into the second half the team’s captain, who was course for her hat trick, dislocated her shoulder leaving the team without its talisman. After a change in positions and quick pep talk the team carried on strongly and preserved its clean sheet. Everyone at Triton wishes a speedy recovery to Jenna.

Triton Beavers U13s 5 Sandbach 0

The Beavers won 5-0 against a good Sandbach side for its third straight win of the season and second consecutive clean sheet. There was some great play throughout the team but an outstanding performance by player of the match Ben Brock who scored four goals. Skipper Tom Statham blasted home the other goal whilst Matthew Kerry was excellent at the back denying Sandbach any opportunity of a comeback.

Ben Brock on the goal trail, 8 already this season!

Triton Badgers U15s 7 Lymm 2

The Badgers won 7-2 against Lymm in the beautiful evening sunshine. There was a great team spirit and drive to enjoy the game from the Badgers that really impressed coach Chris Calam and new manager Matt Beetlestone. The team went behind early on after an unfortunate defender’s deflection put the ball passed goalie George Jenkins. But the game was settled by a hat-trick from Nathan Kimberlin, there were two goals from Nathan’s older brother Matthew plus a further brace by Brad Stevens and lots of near misses. The defence looked tight and Harry Clare together with the rest of the midfield generated the simple passing to drive the Badgers forward. The team travels to Macclesfield next week where probably a sterner test will be faced.
