Three On The Spin For Men's 1s

11 October 2017 by Tim Statham

Triton Men’s 1s 2 Rhyl Men’s 1s 0

Men’s 1s secured their third straight win at home to Rhyl. During a poor first half, Triton could have found themselves behind but for some excellent stops from player of the match Jay Punshon in goal. A couple of efforts from penalty corners were all that Triton could muster on goal in the first period. Triton attacked with much more intent at the start of the second half and scored within 5 minutes of the restart. Chris Cooper brought the ball out of defence, released Charlie Leech on the left who’s centre found an excellent sliding finish from Greg Williamson. Triton grew from this and forced further chances. Tom Chaddock was unlucky to have an effort ruled out for 2-0 when his effort was adjudged to have been struck outside the D. Punshon was called into action on further occasions and as the home team held firm. Triton finally secured the win with 10 minutes remaining as Chaddock dribbled past a runner and slotted into the corner of the goal at a penalty corner. Tensions frayed in the closing stages with two Rhyl players sin-binned for unsporting behaviour but despite being below par Triton was deserving of the points. The team travels to Southport next week with all the top 6 all having 9 points each after the first three games.

Triton Ladies’ 1s 1 Desside Ladies’ 1s 4

Deeside started the much brighter team scoring three goals in the opening minutes of the fixture. Triton then changed its formation and held strong in defence. An excellent give and go pass through the midfield saw Michelle Price score Triton's only goal in the match.

3-1 down at half time saw a focused team talk to motivate the whole team. The second half Triton held strong in defence and even had a few chances to test the Deeside keeper. The visitors had numerous penalty corners throughout the game but Triton defended these brilliantly. The tough match ended 4-1 to Deeside who won the division last season but Triton worked exceptionally hard against a team already leading the way this time. There were many positives to take from the first three games in a much tougher league and next week the team take on Timperley away.

Denbigh Men’s 4s 5 Triton Men’s 2s 1

After two excellent wins in the opening games, the Men’s 2s came unstuck at Denbigh. Triton started the game strongly in the first half but was unable to repel Denbigh's counter attacks. Triton created multiple chances during the match, but sadly was only to convert when Joss Berry grabbed a consolation for the team.

Lymm Ladies’ 1s 5 Triton Ladies’ 2s 1

The Ladies’ 2s started in great style as the returning Becky Wade gave it an early lead inside 10 minutes with a great finish. Lymm soon replied scoring from 2 penalty corners just before half time. 2-1 to Lymm. The tiring legs of Triton began to show in the second half, as Lymm started to dominate the game and give the visitors the run around. Two more terrific shots from Lymm put paid to Tritons spirits despite a player of the match performance by Julie Harris and great display by Triton defence.

Triton Men’s 3s 5 Sale Men’s 2s 2

The Men’s 3s moved up to third place with a good win over Sale as Jack Robinson bagged a brace, with one goal apiece for Simon Cruxton, Phil Hunt and Max Lawton. The team raced out to a 5-0 lead with some good passing a movement as Si Cruxton, Andy Pilbury and Nathan Goode dominated the midfield. Dom Barker nearly added a sixth before two late goals for the visitors gave a more balanced look to the scoreline.

Sandbach Men’s 2s 3 Triton Men’s 4s 0

Despite a player of the match performance from keeper Lee Wilson and some heroic defending, the Men’s 4s suffered a third straight defeat away at local rivals Sandbach. With only 10 men for the first 20 minutes or so Triton managed to keep things level and even had a couple of opportunities of its own at the other end of the pitch. With 5 minutes to go to half-time Sandbach managed to break the deadlock. The second half was a similar affair with chances at both ends. But ultimately hosts ran out 3-0 winners despite a much better performance from Triton that hopefully it can take into next week’s game.

Triton Beavers U13s 1 Alderley Edge 0

Back to the scheduled Cheshire Consortium fixtures last Saturday and the Beavers won 1-0 over Alderley Edge B. The team played very much better this week and dominated most of the attacking play. It started on the front foot as Alexander Mackey, Dom Church, Jonathan Holme & Tom Statham dictated much of the play in midfield. Scott Whittaker came very close to opening the score but that was put right towards the end of the first half. A good move down the right put Bethan Robinson free on the wing, Ben Brock turned Bethan's ball across goal and Nicolas Mackey was on hand to finish at the back post for his first ever Beavers' goal. Alderley countered with some purpose but Harrison Salt and Asha Kroll had very good games at fullback whilst player of the match Matthew Kerry repelled any attack that got through.

In the second half the team hit the post three times with Gennaro Reddy being most unfortunate not to increase the advantage. James Bell brought plenty of energy in midfield and some width as the team kept asking questions of a very good goalie for Alderley. There were some nervy moments at the end of the game but Joe Chadwick in goal made some excellent decisions to clear the ball to safety. A good win to make it 4 straight wins for the team and 3 clean sheets in those games makes for some very proud parents and coaching team.

The Beavers congratulate Nicolas on his first ever goal

Triton Badgers U15s 0 Neston 12

It was a tough day at home for the Badgers against a strong and robust Neston team. The team conceded 3 goals in the first half but the opposition ran up a further 9 in the second. The Badgers battled hard against an older and physical team who left a few of the team battered and bruised. Despite the score-line the defensive unit played well with George Jenkins in goal making some very good saves. But ultimately Neston applied too much pressure for the team to sustain. The Badgers had some good chances too as the game was not as one sided as the score suggested, with Nathan Kimberlin coming closest.
